About the American Youth Soccer Organization:
AYSO is one of the largest single youth sports organizations in the United States, comprised of over 50,000 teams and 650,000 players, all supported by 250,000 volunteers. The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is a national, non-profit organization that provides soccer development and instruction for children between the ages of 4 and 19 in all fifty states and some territories of the United States. AYSO is mostly run at local levels by teams of volunteers, including administrators, coaches and referees, many of whom are parents or family of the youth they coach.
The National Games are held every two years, the 2008 games were conducted in Hawaii; the 2012 Games have been awarded to Knoxville, Tennessee.
To understand the AYSO National Games Lottery Draw and the subsequent Region invitations, is to understand the purpose of the AYSO National Games.
The AYSO National Games is not a
national championship. It is also not just a tournament. The AYSO National Games is a cultural exchange designed
to bring together all Sections and as many Regions as possible for a celebration
of all that is AYSO. The week-long event focuses on
sportsmanship, team spirit, making new friends, lots of soccer and having fun through all of its activities.Â
AYSO began the National Games in 1988 with the purpose of bringing together teams from different Regions, Areas and Sections to experience
the diversity AYSO has to offer. The Games are a
chance for participants to make new friends and gain exposure to new parts
of the country
and other cultures and to enjoy a lot of soccer.
